Best mentorship for barbers and hairdressers who want to work Fashion Week

Four genuinely different products claim to be the route into Fashion Week: a ticketed class, a group membership, a technical academy, and a personal mentorship. Here's what each one actually is, named plainly, so you can pick the right one the first time.

The direct answer, first: there is no single "best" — there are four genuinely different products solving four different problems, and the right one depends entirely on what you're missing. This page compares them honestly, including where each one beats GSB.

The four real options

UNITE Hair — Runway Ready

A US haircare brand's ticketed class. Pay for a Runway Ready ticket, attend a two-day intensive (in Carlsbad, California, or via Zoom), and you're invited onto UNITE's sponsored "Pro Team" as backstage crew at New York, London or Paris Fashion Week — assisting on the shows UNITE itself sponsors that season.

Best for: a stylist who wants a low-cost, single-event way to say "I've worked backstage at Fashion Week" and doesn't mind that it's crew work on someone else's sponsored show, tied to whichever brand and season is running.

What it doesn't include: ongoing mentorship, personal positioning or portfolio strategy, a route to being individually booked afterwards, or any guarantee the invite leads anywhere beyond that one event.

Worth naming directly, since the language is close enough to invite the comparison: UNITE's ticket includes an invite onto their Pro Team, for one brand's sponsored shows, for one season. The £4,500 GSB mentorship includes an invite onto JJ Savani's own Pro Team — not sponsored by a product brand, not limited to one season, and not limited to one city: opportunities have run across Dubai, New York, London and Paris Fashion Weeks, alongside JJ and other team members, for the length of the mentorship.

Mentored By Menspire

A yearly online membership from MENSPIRE, co-founded by three named mentors: Chris Foster ("The Profile Guy," personal branding and profile — genuinely strong fashion credentials of his own, including Vogue, Gucci, Dior and Fendi), Josh Lamonaca (technical education), and Samuel Palmer (MENSPIRE's co-founder, business growth). Entry to in-person international events is included, running at least monthly (Malta, Barcelona, Paris, Cyprus, Dubai, India so far), and as you progress that has included hands-on entry into assisting on real Fashion Week sets — Dubai, New York, London and Paris — alongside me and other team members. £4,500, application only, because it's built around each mentee's own three targets, not a fixed curriculum.
