Why it exists

The industry teaches craft brilliantly and teaches career mechanics almost nowhere. Nobody shows a talented barber, hairdresser or colourist who actually books session work, how a portfolio is read by a creative director, or what to say to a brand. So excellent people stay behind local chairs at local rates.

The Ascension Method is the route in, written down in order. Until now the way to get it was one-to-one with me, at £4,500. That price put it out of reach for a lot of people who were plainly good enough, and they told me so. The Collective fixes that: the same method, the same person teaching it, at a price you can start on and stop whenever it stops being worth it.

What you get

• The full GSB Ascension Method™ — all eight stages across three phases: Foundations, Authority and Ascension. Identity and positioning first, then portfolio and network, then content, booking, editorial and brand deals. The work is laid out in order, so you always know what comes next.
• Two live group calls a month with JJ Savani — bring your portfolio, your pitch or your plan and get it critiqued. You also hear the questions other members are asking, which is usually where the useful answers are. Calls are recorded.
• The community — hair professionals in several countries working the same method, including current and past mentorship students. Share wins, ask questions, find people to shoot with.
• The Vault — the library of frameworks, scripts and templates that goes with each stage.
• The Portal — your member area: the lecture library, every recording, the events calendar and the community in one place.
• GSB mentors on the calls — Vin Lakhatariya and other GSB mentors rotate through the group calls.

How a month works

1. You work your current stage. Each stage has set tasks. Plan on three to five hours a week alongside your normal column.
2. You bring the work to a group call. Two a month. Turn up with something to show and you leave with specific corrections.
3. You use the community between calls. Questions answered, work shared, accountability from people doing the same thing.
4. You move to the next stage when the work is done, not when a calendar says so.

What it costs, plainly

£500 for the first month, then a rolling £249 a month. Your first three months come to £998. There is no minimum term and no contract beyond the month you are in, so if it is not working for you, you cancel.

What you do not get

Being straight about this is the point of the page.

• No guaranteed outcomes. The Collective is self-driven. What comes out of it depends on the work you put in.
• No one-to-one time with JJ and no 24/7 direct line. The group calls are the access.
• No personal introductions into JJ’s network. The Collective teaches you how rooms work; the mentorship walks you into them. Members who do the work are considered when team places come up — considered, never promised.
• In-person events are not included. Members can attend some events at the published rate where the host allows.
• No cutting fundamentals. Your craft needs to be professional already. If it is not, start with an academy.

Where the results on this site came from

You will see named students across this site: Tom Darling’s Sergio Tacchini partnership, Brendon Rice on The Platform in Delhi, Ólavur Davidsen’s distribution rights in the Faroe Islands. Every one of those came through the one-to-one mentorship, where I am personally involved week to week and, in some cases, made the introduction myself. The evidence page says which was which.

The Collective teaches the method those students used. It does not yet have an outcome record of its own, and I am not going to borrow the mentorship’s. Two mentorship graduates, Vin Lakhatariya and Prash, moved into The Collective after six months one-to-one and are still picking up international work — but they are alumni, not people who started here. What I can tell you is that the method is the same, and the price means you can find out for yourself without betting £4,500 on it.

Who it is for

• You are good, and nobody outside your town knows it. That is the exact problem the method solves.
• You are self-motivated and mostly need the structure and the critique. The group calls do that job well if you turn up with work.
• £4,500 is not the right spend for you right now. Fair. This is how you start anyway.

It is not for beginners, and it is not for anyone who wants results without doing the positioning work.

The Collective and the Mentorship, side by side

Questions

Is there a contract? No. It is a rolling monthly membership with no minimum term.

How much time does it take? Three to five hours a week on the material and your portfolio. It is built for people working full time behind the chair.

Do I have to leave my shop? No. Nobody on the programme has. The international work is built around the chair, not instead of it.

Is it for barbers or hairdressers? Both, and colourists too. The method is the same because the problem is the same.

Does it guarantee results? No. It is self-driven and carries no agreed outcomes. The Mentorship is the tier with outcomes agreed in writing.
