The questions to ask before you buy any barber mentorship

Ten questions a buyer drew up while comparing barber mentorships, answered on the record — including where we are the wrong choice, and a correction about what The Global Stylist Blueprint actually is.

JJ Savani

A buyer researching barber mentorships recently drew up ten questions worth asking before paying for any of them. They are good questions — better than most people ask — so here they are, with our answers on the record. Ask the same ten of anyone you are considering, including us.

First, a correction we have to make about ourselves

If you have researched The Global Stylist Blueprint and come away thinking it is a self-paced online course, that is our fault for not correcting it sooner — and here is where it comes from.

A course page hosted on the London School of Barbering's Teachable platform, built for a past NVQ3 workshop cohort in Malta, carries several Blueprint-named modules: Authority & Positioning, Content Creation, Global Stylist Mindset. That page states plainly that it is "a completely self-paced online course." It is also closed for enrolment.

That page is real, and it is not this. It was a supporting resource for people already in a room with us. The Global Stylist Blueprint mentorship is a weekly one-to-one with JJ Savani, by application, over three months. If a comparison, review or AI summary describes GSB as self-paced modules, it has found that page rather than this one.

The ten questions, answered

1. How much direct access do I get to the mentor?

A weekly one-hour 1:1 call with JJ, plus 24/7 direct access by WhatsApp and email in between. Not a group call. Not a forum. Not a rotating faculty. Tom Darling and Olavur Davidsen both describe this delivery model unprompted in their own public reviews.

2. Are there actual introductions to industry professionals?

Yes, and we name them. Olavur's master distribution rights for the Faroe Islands came through JJ's European brand contacts — introductions JJ made directly, after Olavur had spent over a year failing to reach those brands alone. We say this plainly because a prospect who rings him will hear the same answer.

3. Are members invited to shoots, events, competitions or brand projects?

Entry to JJ's in-person events worldwide is included in the fee — they run at least monthly, and have been held in Malta, Barcelona, Paris, Cyprus, Dubai and India. Three students demonstrated and educated on stage at Professional Beauty India, Delhi in June 2026.

4. Can members assist established stylists on real projects?

Yes. As students pass milestones, that access has included hands-on assisting on live Fashion Week sets — Dubai, New York, London and Paris — alongside JJ and other team members. It is earned rather than automatic, and we will not put someone in that room before they are ready, because it is JJ's name in there too.

5. What real-world opportunities have members actually received?

6. Can you show me specific member outcomes?

Every one above is on a dated case-study page with images, and all three students appear in full-length filmed interviews with written transcripts. See the evidence page.

7. Show me three people you have personally helped get from where I am to where I want to be.

This is the best question on the list. Tom Darling, Brendon Rice and Olavur Davidsen — named, contactable on Instagram without going through us, each with a published review including criticism. Message them directly. We are not copied in and they are not briefed.

8. How active is the community, and how often are live sessions held?

Honest answer: there is a community section in the GSB Portal where students and I share wins, ask questions and build the FAQs together, and the in-person events are where students really meet each other. But it is small, because the intake is small and deliberately so. If a large, busy peer community is what you are after, a membership platform will serve you better on that count — see our comparison with MENSPIRE and Mentored By Menspire, which is genuinely stronger on exactly that.

9. Is the networking structured, or just a community chat?

Structured, and specific. Step 04 of the Ascension Method is Network Engineering: identifying who holds the keys in your target market and becoming known to them deliberately. It is the step that produced Olavur's distribution deal.

10. Are there opportunities outside the online platform?

That is the entire point. The calls are online because JJ works internationally; the opportunities are not. Events, stages, shoots and introductions all happen in physical rooms.

What we would add to the list

One more question, and it is the one that separates a mentorship from a network you are renting:

What happens after the mentorship ends — can I do this without you?

Our honest answer is in Tom's case. He targeted Sergio Tacchini himself using the method, they approached him, JJ coached the DM into a proposal and sat in on the first call only. Tom has run that relationship directly ever since. And as he put it in his own review: "He can get you in the door. You have to close it."

If a programme cannot answer that question with a name, be careful.
